About Ryeland Sheep

Navigation

Ryelands are the smalholders dream.

The Ryeland is an easily managed dual purpose native breed sheep, used as a terminal sire, suitable for crossing in commercial flocks, and an ideal breed for the smallholder. Pure bred lambs have vigorous growth, reaching 50kg in six months on grass alone.

They are very friendly, the rams are easy to handle and the ewes are superb Mums. They stay in the field you put them in and so much more.

2009 Shows

At Stafford County Show in May we had a Ryeland class of 45 entries plus 5 coloured Ryelands in the 'any other breed' class.

We won the Show Champion with our stock ram Broomwell HTO, the ram lamb class with Roston Luciano, and Best Group of Three, winning the three show trophies

At Cheshire County Show we won the Show Champion in the Downland Breed class with our ram Jeferson, and won the ram lamb class with Roston Luciano

At Burwarton Show there was a strong Ryeland Class with a total of 112 entries, so we were delighted to win the Group of Three class, winning the Malcolm Collins Memorial Bowl

Here we have a few pictures which we took at our two local county shows, Stafford & Cheshire and at Burwarton show in 2009, together with a few more taken over the year
